Eid Al-Adha  2006

Translated by Dr. Faheem Bukhatwa

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

In the name of Allah Most Gracious most Merciful. Alhamdulil-Allah.

لبيّك اللهم لبّيك ,

I hear and I respond, I am at your command.

لا شريك لك ,

No partner is with you, I am at your command.

إن الحمد والنعمة والملك لك

All gratitude, all mercy and all ownership all belongs to you  .

No partners are with you.

I hear and I respond, I am at your command.

Thanks be to Allah.

Dear Muslims; the messenger may peace and prayers be upon him said “Let it be known to you; that this is day is the greatest of all days.”

The prophet in his final Eid talk he asked “What day is this? Isn’t it the day of sacrifice? And what month is this? Isn’t it the moth of Thel-Hejja? And what town is this? Isn’t it the forbidden town?” He continued ”Your blood, your monies, and your honor are as forbidden to you as this day, this month and this town are, until you meet your Lord. Have I informed or delivered? My lord be my witness, Do not after me return to being infidel (non-believers) fighting one another”

In his Final Eid talk he was reported saying: “Only die as Muslims. And look at what you have done for tomorrow. Worship your Lord. Do the five prayers, fast your month, give your charity, listen to your leaders and you shall enter paradise.”

Verbally specify the intention and the name of who the sacrifice is for. Give one third for charity, one third as a gift and one third for the house hold.

Dear Muslim sisters, you; who have accepted Allah as a lord, Islam as a belief, and Mohammed (PPbU) as a prophet and as a messenger, hold on to your hijab, your honor and your religion.

لبيّك اللهم لبّيكI hear and I respond, I am at your command. No partner is with you, I am at your command, All gratitude, all mercy and all ownership, is to you. No partners are with you. I am at your command. Thanks be to Allah.

We ask almighty Allah for forgiveness; for all of us; from all sins. Do ask for his forgiveness. He is the all forgiving the most merciful.

Notes:

  1. Arafa (or Arafa or Arafat): is a mountain that represents the climax of the Hajj worship. All doing Hajj must stay at this location on the same day.
  2. Duaa: a prayer in the form of talking to Allah; praising him and asking him for help.
  3. Hadeeth: is something reported that the messenger said. It includes all the speeches and ceremonies he gave. It is usually narrated or told by one of his companions. There is a list of hadeeths approximately 14000 that are reported and checked to be genuine. No more hadeeths are acceptably added to this list.
  4. Jihad: is striving in the line of Allah in many forms. Includes a very wide scope varying from improving oneself to fighting a defensive war in protection of Allah's word.
  5. Ommah: is the Arabic word for a nation. It usually refers to the Islamic nation unless otherwise specified.
  6. Madinah: A city in the Arabian peninsula (known now as Saudi Arabia). A city where the messenger had to immigrate to.
  7. Nafilah: a voluntary prayer other than the five obligatory prayers; performed by a believer.
  8. PPBU: Peace and Prayers Be Upon him.
  9. Sunna: is the way the Messenger PPBU lived, did or said. It includes the way he dressed, ate, drank, prayed, interacted with other people and fought. Basically, sunnah is the life style of the messenger PPBU. It is considered the second source of legislation in Islamic laws and it is considered an important reference to be used for concluding arguments and disputes.
