Eid-al-Adha 1428h – December 2007

The Khutbah is by: Sk. Younis Saleh.
Translated by Dr. Faheem Bukhatwa

In the name of Allah Most Gracious Most Merciful

Allah Akbar, Allah Akbar, Allah Akbar

Allah is the greatest, There is no God but Allah, Thanks be to Allah.

We give our gratitude and our thanks to him early in the day and at the end of each day. Allah alone is the greatest; He gave victory to His slave, and gave glory and honor to His soldiers, and He alone defeated the allies against his messenger.

Allah is the Greatest.

لبيّك اللهم لبّيك ,

I hear and I respond, I am at your command.

لا شريك لك ,

No partners are with you, I am at your command.

إن الحمد والنعمة والملك لك

All gratitude, all mercies and all things belong to you  .

No partners are with you.

I hear and I respond, I am at your command.

Thanks be to Allah.

I testify and believe that there is no God but Allah,

Whom no one can put down what He elevates,

And no one can elevate what He brings down.

No one can stop what He gives,

And no one can give what He stops.

The one, the only, the Eternal. The one who was not born, and did not give birth. The one who has no equivalence.

Thanks be to Him for the mercy of Islam that He bestowed on to us. Thanks be to Him that He made us the best nation sent to people, commanding good and deterring against evil and believing in Allah.

All thanks be to Him for the complete religion He gave us, and for complementing His mercy on to us, and thanks be to Him for being happy for us to be Muslims. We direct our prayers and peace to the one who was sent as mercy to all man kind.

Slaves of Allah, remember that you are living a day that is considered the greatest of all days. And keep in mind that Eid day is a day of faith and worship. For Eid-al-Fitr comes after the worship of fasting, and so does the Eid-al-Adha comes after the great worship of Hajj.

The messenger (PPBU) said: {let it be known to you all that, your blood, money and honor are sacred; just as sacred as this day of yours, in this sacred month of yours, and in this sacred town of yours, until the day you meet your creator. Have I not delivered the message?} {God my Lord, be my witness, and let this of you who witnessed this, to notify those who are not here. For some who listen may be more aware than those who deliver. Do not; after me; go back to being non-believers fighting and killing each other.}

I give you the advice that Allah gave all people and more specifically to Muslims as He says: {O mankind! fear your Lord! for the convulsion of the Hour (of Judgment) will be so traumatically terrible.

The Day ye shall see it, every mother giving suck shall forget her suckling-baby, and every pregnant female shall drop her load. Thou shalt see mankind as in a drunken state, yet not drunk: but dreadful will be the Wrath or punishment of Allah. }

Allah also says: {You believers give to Allah His deserved fear and do not die except as Muslims}

Allah also says: {You believers fear Allah, and let each soul look and see what it did for tomorrow, and fear Allah, For Allah is all knowledgeable with what you do}

Dear Muslims, get a sense of the meaning of the sacrifice that Prophet Abraham represented. That’s what our messenger reemphasized as a sacrifice and as a charity act. Some scholars recommended doing the sacrifice and some scholars saw it as being compulsory. It can be a lamb, or a cow or a goat. You must utter the intention for whom it is intended. The sacrifice is divided into three portions, one third for the family, a third is given as a present and a third is given as a charity.

Dear Muslims, protect your selves. Allah says: {you who believe, protect your selves and your families from a fire that is fueled by people and rocks. Tough big angels are put in its charge; they never disobey Allah, and they do what they are ordered}

And remember what the messenger said: {A Muslim to a Muslim is a brother; He must not transgress against, do not disappoint him or let him down. And this that gets his brother out of a trouble or an anxiety in this life, Allah will get him out of a trouble in the life after. And this who eases or relieves an affliction for his brother in this life, Allah will relive an affliction off him in the life after. And this that covers up or shields for his brother in this life, Allah will cover up for him or shield him in the day of resurrection. And Allah will continue to help any slave as long as the slave continues to help his brother}

Ask Allah for forgiveness, He is the most generous the most forgiving. And may He forgive all our sins. Amen.

Notes:

  1. Arafa (or Arafa or Arafat): is a mountain that represents the climax of the Hajj worship. All doing Hajj must stay at this location on the same day.
  2. Duaa: a prayer in the form of talking to Allah; praising him and asking him for help.
  3. Hadeeth: is something reported that the messenger said. It includes all the speeches and ceremonies he gave. It is usually narrated or told by one of his companions. There is a list of hadeeths approximately 14000 that are reported and checked to be genuine. No more hadeeths are acceptably added to this list.
  4. Jihad: is striving in the line of Allah in many forms. Includes a very wide scope varying from improving oneself to fighting a defensive war in protection of Allah's word.
  5. Ommah: is the Arabic word for a nation. It usually refers to the Islamic nation unless otherwise specified.
  6. Madinah: A city in the Arabian peninsula (known now as Saudi Arabia). A city where the messenger had to immigrate to.
  7. Nafilah: a voluntary prayer other than the five obligatory prayers; performed by a believer.
  8. PPBU: Peace and Prayers Be Upon him.
  9. Sunna: is the way the Messenger PPBU lived, did or said. It includes the way he dressed, ate, drank, prayed, interacted with other people and fought. Basically, sunnah is the life style of the messenger PPBU. It is considered the second source of legislation in Islamic laws and it is considered an important reference to be used for concluding arguments and disputes.
