Fend for your living

Translated by Dr. Faheem Bukhatwa

In the name of Allah Most Gracious Most Merciful

All thanks be to Allah the lord of the worlds, and Peace and prayer be upon the most honorable messenger, his family and all his companions. People; consider Allah when dealing with yourselves, your families, in your work, your money. Always consider him in what you eat and what you save for your selves for the other life.

Earning you living and seeking it out is something we are ordered to do in our Sharia. It is that souls are naturally goes towards. For Allah had made the day for earn the living, and made within it a plenty of time. Allah ordered us to walk into earths’ terrain and be fed by what he provides for us. Allah in his book made them peers those who make jihad in his name and those who go out to land seeking his mercies. The messenger said “No better food is ever eaten by anyone other than the food that person earns himself through work.”

Jesus may peace be upon him was reported that he saw a man and said to him: “What do you work at?” “I worship”, “and who supports you?” the man said: “My brother”. He asked “and where is your brother?” “At the farm” he replied, Jesus said: “Your brother is better at worship than you are.”

In Islam too, worshiping is not to stand in line with your feet while someone else earns your living and supports you. But, it is to start with earning your living, secure it and then go for worship.

Omar ben Khattab said “No place I would rather for death to approach me at, is better than at a place of a market while shopping for my family, buying and selling.” Referring to being busy at work. Good halal earnings make your money and religion pure, protects your honor.

Allah is good and graceful and he accepts only goodness and gracefulness.

One of the benefits of true of belief is the gracefulness of the heart, virtuous hand and a good tong. As good people die, as angles receive their souls they say to them “Peace be upon you, Enter into paradise because of your good deed”

The messenger PPBU said “He or she will enter paradise this that feeds on hala, and keeps up a Sunnah, and people were safe off his harm”

He was also reported saying: {There are four characters if you possess, it matters not what you may have missed in your life, kept what he is entrusted with, being truthful when spoken, good mannered and righteousness in what your eat}. Seeking out Halal is an obligation upon a Muslim. Each and everyone, on the day of judgment, will not be allowed to proceed until he/she is asked about his wealth how he earned and in what he spent it. Make sure your earnings are clean Halan and pure and the work is acceptable. So one will eat of Halal and spends and give charity out of halal. When Abu-Bakr knew that something he ate was taken through cheating, he put his finger in his mouth to force his stomach take out that food. He said: “I would much rather that it comes out even if it meant my soul would comes out with it. O’Allah I apologies for what has already been consumed into my body”. One good lady said to her husband: “Always consider Allah in what food you bring us, for we can put up with hunger but we will not be able to put up with burning fire”

The messenger said talked about absolutely needy man, who for a long time tried many routs and method to unveil. Then putting his hands up asking Allah in supplication: “O’Allah my God” but what he eats is from haram, and what he wears is from haram and his flesh grew on haram, how could his prayers be answered? So it is Haram that prevents his prayers from being answered.

What would be left to an individual if his relationship with his Allah is severed, and his call to Allah is blocked, and Allah mercy was not to reach him. Some say it does not matter how much worship you do until you see what goes into your stomach.

Eating haram blinds your hindsight, debilitates your religion, hardens your heart, darkens your thinking, burdens your senses from doing good deeds, makes you fall into the net of this life, it blocks your duaa, and finally Allah only accepts from those that fear.

Those who feed on haram and feed their families and children on haram are promised punishment. They are like those who drinks sea water, the more they drink the thirstier they get. No little will satisfy them, and a lot will not make them rich enough. They continue in earning more haram in more twisted methods. Dealing in Reba (or interest), gambling, cheating or forcibly taking others rights, dishonesty when weighing and measuring, speaking bad of others, using magic and fortune-telling, unlawfully taking money from orphans’ or from those who are under age, falsely giving oath, unlawful fun and time wasting, cunning deceitfulness and  betrayals.

All you Muslim workers, business people, manufacturers, craftsmen and women, sales people, agents, traders, subcontractors, professionals you all must watch out for halal and haram, keep away from dubious or suspect situations on the edges of haram. Keep safe other’s rights, do the work that you are meant to do, fulfill your promises and your parts of contracts. Stay away from swindling, delaying and procrastinating. Fear Allah.

Allah, with your halal make us need not the haram.

Let our obedience for you, make us never disobey you.

With your generosity make us need not anyone else’s.

Do not make this worldly life be our greatest worry.

Do not make hell fire be our final destiny.

We ask you that we be part of each mercy, and that we be destined from every sin.

Bless what you have given us,

Shield us from fire,

Allah, make us amongst those whose prayers are answered.
