Repentance 2

Translated by Dr. Faheem Bukhatwa

In the name of Allah most Gracious most Merciful.

Thanks be to Allah Lord of the worlds. And peace and prayers be upon the most honorable of all messengers,

The prophet PPUH said {amongst those who lived before you there was a man who murdered 99 souls. He asked for the most knowledgeable of all people. He was told about a worshipping man. He told him that he killed 99 souls, and was there a way to repent? The man answered him “No”. He got so annoyed, and killed him too, making it 100 souls he killed. He asked again for the most knowledgeable, this time he was sent to a scholar. He asked him the same question saying: “I killed 100 souls, is there a way to repent?” The scholar said “Yes, what or who is it that can come between you and repenting? Leave this evil land of yours. Go to such and such land. There, people worship Allah. Go and join them in worshipping Allah”. The man went on his quest. Half way through he died. The angel of mercy and angel of punishment each wanted to claim his soul. The angel of mercy argued his case saying “The man was coming to Allah with a repenting heart”. The angel of punishment argued that he never did one good deed I his life. A third angel was asked to decided, he said “Measure the distance between him and both evil and good lands (where he was coming from and where he was going to. Count him towards the nearest). He was found to be just about nearer to the good land where he was heading to, and the angel of mercy took his soul. This story opens doors of hope to every wrong doer no matter how big the sins are. It tells of some one who killed a hundred souls, and yet his soul still contained some tiny bit of light or hope, a bit of fear of Allah. He asked a worshipping man, who worships a lot but have not much knowledge. The worshipping man thought Allah’s mercy is not big for all the man’s sins. That is ignorance. Yet even after killing him he still remained hopeful with Allah. The Scholar is the one who said to him “And who can come between you and repentance?” He guided him to the path to follow, causing the angle of mercy to receive his soul.

Dear Muslim, do not ever give up because of some sin you have committed. Listen to this godly call: “Say all you my worshippers who inflicted far too much on to your selves. Do not loose hope in Allah’s mercy. For Allah forgives all sins. He is the most forgiving the most merciful”. What are you waiting for? All you have to do is: Stop doing the sinful act, feel sorry for ever doing it, and have the intention not to do it again. Then knock at Allah’s door. Allah said {If my worshipers ask you about me, I am close by}.

If you think you have committed too many sins, and then put your organs to account. What did your hands do, your feet, eye tong. I think these are the signs of a real repentance. Have hope in Allah. Ibn-Masood said: {The biggest of the big sins are: believing in others beside Allah, and believing of being able to be safe from Allah and giving up hope in Allah’s mercy.}

A believer walks towards Allah in fear and in hope. Occasionally, one of those will over whelm the other. If one commits a sin, then the side of fearing Allah takes over so one will repent. If one repents, then the side of hope in Allah takes over in expectation of Allah’s forgiveness.

The prophet said Allah becomes a lot happier when one makes a repentance, than when one lost in a desert and who is about to perish is saved.
